A dental crown is a tooth shaped cap that is placed over to cover the tooth to restore its shape, size, strength and appearance. It also protects the tooth from fracture. After a tooth has been treated by deep cavity removal (RCT) it becomes brittle and as a result it has more tendency to fracture due to the chewing force. A dental cap acts as a helmet to protect it from such forces. Similarly, after traumatic fracture of a tooth or to give a new form and shape to a tooth, a cap may be offered to you. There are variants of cap such as PFM, ZIRCONIA, LAVA, EMAX. Before placement of cap the tooth needs to be shaped in order to gain space for the cap.
